Summer '12 CSA - Sign up!

Our Summer '12 CSA will run 22 weeks from June through October and is available in full ($25/week) and small ($15/week) shares.  In addition, participants have the option of adding eggs and bread to their shares.  We have a number of pick-up locations in the Pittsburgh area as well as near the farms in Clarion.  For a list of locations we deliver to, please click the link to sign-up; there is a list and map of the locations available there.  We plan on adding several more locations throughout the winter, and if you have any suggestions or can help in any way--we would greatly appreciate it, just send us an email.

CSA General Info
Community supported agriculture (CSA) is a way for people in the community to be directly connected to the farms and farmers that grow their food.  In our CSA, members will pay a fee in the beginning of the season to subscribe; then every week from the beginning of June through the end of October they will receive a bag of fresh produce from our farms. Some weeks the shares may contain products we have made with our produce, such as jams or jellies, as well as grains.  Most weeks there will be a newsletter about our farms and the produce members will be receiving, including recipes and information on some of the more unusual items.

What to Expect

You can expect to receive 6-10 different items each week in our full shares and 4-6 in our small shares.  For the full shares we plan on including 3 vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, zucchini), a starchy vegetable (potatoes, squash), a fruit (strawberries, melons), a green (kale, chard), a lettuce (red butterhead, green oakleaf), and an herb (basil, tarragon) each week.  The small shares will be similar but with fewer items.

We will always try our best to include items that make sense together in terms of cooking/eating.  We will include newsletters with recipes and directions/ideas for what to do with certain items you might not be used to.  You can expect to receive a pretty wide variety of foods (see below), including a few items you can't find almost anywhere else; garlic scapes and ground cherries are some of our favorites.

There should be plenty of lettuces, greens, herbs and vegetables in the spring, with more fruit and starchy vegetables coming throughout the summer and into the fall.  Lettuces and greens will be available in spring and fall but will be rare in the middle of the summer.  As summer turns to fall many vegetables will go out of season, but will be replaced with plenty of fruits and starchy vegetables.  See the bottom of this page for a list of the items you can expect to receive throughout the season.

Due to the unpredictability of agriculture, we cannot promise any specific quantities or varieties of produce, but each of our farms grows a wide variety of produce throughout the season, and since we are a cooperative of growers, we are able to better guarantee that you will receive as much variety and quantity as possible, over an extended season.

All of the produce you will receive is organic, locally grown, and will be picked and delivered to you as fresh as possible.

If for some reason you are not able to pick up your share at some time, we recommend having a friend pick it up--either for you, or for themselves.  If your share is not picked up, we will ensure that it does not go to waste.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us.
